Why Yahoo! Sucks

I'm looking for the full text of Obama's inauguration speech (to reference a line out of it), so I google it. The top link is a Yahoo news story that claims to have the full text. I click on it, and it's a dead link. Ok, I guess that happens from time to time.

Then, beneath the Yahoo 404 message, it offers Yahoo search results for my google search phrase (obama inauguration speech full text). Again, the top link is a Yahoo news story claiming to have the full text (though a different URL than the Google result). Again, it's a dead link.

So... this Yahoo news page is down (and has been for a while, I think), but even Yahoo's own search results haven't updated and continue to send me to a bad page. Perhaps this isn't so bad, but for some reason I don't seem to ever have ran into this problem with Google...

PS - random issue encountered while typing this post: Do you capitalize the "G" in Google when you're using it as a verb? As a noun, I see the need for capitalization. As an adjective as well. But for a verb, I'm thinking no... (wow, I must be tired...)

  1. Yahoo! has a death wish. Today they announce (at least for yahoo.ca) that they are closing briefcase, one of the most useful functions they have left.
I agree with what you suspect - the tendency is to lose the capital. Consider "to boycott", "to disneyfy". A Google search for a verb from Robert Bork's name gives it both ways, sometimes in the same document.

  2. I agree that Yahoo sucks. I've had a blog for about 2 months now that they just won't index. Why? Well, only God and the people at Yahoo know the answer to that one. By contrast, Google has me hitting at the top page of its search for a few terms.

You can see for yourself, if you'd like. Try searching "future twits" in Google and Yahoo. The last entry on the page in Google is a satire piece I did about Bill Clinton. In Yahoo ??? The website that you should be looking for is
    www.futuretwits.blogspot.com

    Yahoo sucks

  3. Unfortunately, I'm stuck w/Yahoo email for my business and can't easily escape. It has been locking up on avg. twice a day for months and the other links are not much better.

It seems the company is more concerned about delivering "vital" information such as "Hugh Downs Reports" and "why online college is rocking" rather than fix the increasing bugs in its software.

  4. They are trying to force you to register for "Text messaging!” Do not sign up for this, they will bill you $9 every time you send or receive a text message. They are also making most of their money giving out your email address and other private information that hey can make money from.

Chang to hotmail.com or other free email services, also your ISP will give you free email accounts!

DROP YAHOO!!! THEY ARE IN FNANCIAL TROUBLE AND WILL DO WHAT EVER THEY CAN TO GET/ TAKE MONEY FROM YOU!!!!

  6. yahoo blows.
years ago I left yahoo, was a frequent poster on the stock msg boards, when they demanded I update my user profile with more personal info.
Recently I returned, created a new yahoo user profile(used dummy personal data, privacy policy my arse!)
Get this, when posting on the stock msg boards if you post a msg that contains a link to a google search somehow they block your user id from posting again for 24 hrs!
Did it twice, second time as a test, and within 5 minutes I was again locked out for the day!

    yahoo is going down!

  8. Moved my email from Yahoo because I often received more spam than legitimate mail. Being especially annoyed with the unbelievable amount of "phishing" emails that actually DO originate from Yahoo accounts, I started forwarding all of them to Yahoo admin (abuse ...and phishing). So far I've caused the shutdown of a significant number of Yahoo based accounts.
My hope was that they would upgrade their security; thereby, reduce the abuse.
Well, Yahoo did act on the number of emails I was forwarding to them ...finally!
The three "Yahoo" phishing emails I forwarded to Yahoo today were "bounced" In true "It's easier to sweep problems under the carpet" fashion. Yahoo has stepped up its security and blocked my email address.
